How Does Ethereum Work?
The core is the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), a decentralized, global computer that executes smart contracts written primarily in Solidity. Once deployed, contracts are immutable and run exactly as programmed, no interference possible.
Since The Merge, validation uses Proof of Stake: validators deposit 32 ETH as collateral and earn roughly 3–5% annual yield in ETH. Layer 2 solutions (Arbitrum, Optimism, Base) offer fees 10–100x cheaper than the L1.
